Viktorija Gečytė has a rare quality, a natural voice of her own that you will not confuse with anybody else. To Julien Coriatt's original compositions and arrangements, she adds fine lyrics, drawing from the jazz tradition and folk melodies from her native Lithuania. With traces of Bartok and Shönberg on the classical side and influences of jazz masters such as Quincy Jones, Blue Lake is a perfect rendition of the rich and colourful personalities, experiences and inspirations that brought it to life.

Blue Lake was born on a bright summer day by the calm waters of Susiedas lake in Lithuania, and weaves together influences of jazz, classical and traditional Lithuanian music.
For this debut album, pianist and composer Julien Coriatt brought together vocalist Viktorija Gečytė, bassist Peter Giron, and drummer John Betsch, accompanied by nineteen hand-picked musicians, to create the Julien Coriatt Orchestra in 2012.
Known in jazz circles for her flawless time and phrasing, Viktorija brings the Lithuanian vibe through her original lyrics and authentic storytelling. Here, she trades the intimacy and spontaneity of her quartet for the thrills of an Orchestra and Julien's elaborate arrangements.
At the core of this orchestra are bassist Peter Giron and drummer John Betsch, two top-ranked American players based in Paris, who bring power and passion to the rhythm section. Together, they share decades of collaboration with world-class artists like Kurt Elling, Steve Lacy, Archie Shepp, Mal Waldron and Dave Liebman.
Julien is both a leader of his own trio and the JC Orchestra and a composer-arranger for other artists. His education is a rich mix of genres, including traditional folk music from Guadeloupe where he spent his childhood.
Blue Lake is thus as colourful, rich, and ambitious as the diverse personalities, experiences and influences that came to fruition after three years of live performances and recording sessions with the JC Orchestra.
